The second-to-last Golden Reel qualifier of the year was held at Lindholme Lakes in Doncaster on Saturday. At the all-out, it was last year’s Golden Rod winner, Rob Burgin, who did enough to qualify for the upcoming Grand Final.
On a tricky day for fishing, Rob won the match by under 3lb. He drew peg 37 on Beeches and had a steady start to the match fishing catching 21 fish in the opening two hours. Things died off in the early afternoon before he snared a few down to the edge fishing corn over micros. He finished the match with 100lb 2oz. Second place went to Fran O’Reilly with 97lb 10oz from peg 35 on Beeches. Lee Riley finished 3rd with 96lb 2oz from peg 7 on Beeches. The semi-final spots went to Fran and 4th placed James Hall who finished with 88lb 2oz on peg 10 Beeches.
