The 21st The Golden Reel qualifier of the year was held at Hallcroft in Retford, Nottinghamshire on Saturday. With the grand final three weeks away, and only three qualifiers remaining, Jamie Hughes topped off a brilliant week by securing a place in another big-money final. Exactly one week after picking up a cheque for £50,000 at the Maver Match This Grand Final.
Having already booked a place in the semi-final, Jamie Hughes went one better and booked a guaranteed spot in the The Golden Reel final at Larford Lakes on Saturday, 28th September. He didn’t just win the qualifier at Hallcroft, however, he smashed it. Fishing from peg 5 on Island, Jamie weighed in with a mind-blowing 504lb 2oz. That was enough to win the match by over 320lb! Second place went to Harry Bignell with 182lb 4oz from peg 11 on Island. Tony Cassiro finished in third with 143lb from peg 17 on Outer Moat.
Unfortunately, The Golden Reel Facebook page hasn’t posted an interview with Jamie to discuss his tactics on the day. Although he did describe the qualifier as “the most ridiculous match I’ve ever had!” on Winning Ways.

Congratulations to Jamie Hughes who becomes the latest angler to qualify for the big-money Golden Reel final at Larford Lakes on 28th September. The full list of Golden Reel 24 finalists is below:
