Today saw the latest The Golden Reel qualifier contested at Marston Fields Fishery in Birmingham. Just over 6lb separated the top four anglers, but Bury’s Colin Scott came out on top and booked his place in this year’s Golden Reel final.
The qualifier was fished on Marston Fields’ Elm, Laurels and Sycamore lakes, which all fished well despite the 27-degree temperature. Colin won the match from peg 10 on Sycamore with a weight of 86lb 2oz. His catch was made up of small carp early doors and larger carp later in the day. He fished hard pellets at the start of the match, before changing to the method, and then caught in the edge with groundbait and a mixture of worms and maggots.
Second place went to Ryan Burgwin from peg 9 on Laurels with 80lb 12oz, with Zoli Lari coming in third from peg 11 on Sycamore with 80lb 6oz.
