Phil Canning has secured his place in this year’s Golden Reel final following yesterday’s qualifier at Barston. The Birmingham-based angler won the match by 32lbs on a day heavily affected by changing weather conditions.
Canning drew peg 123 and finished the match with 92lb 2oz. According to his interview on the Golden Reel Facebook page, he caught 11 carp in the first couple of hours before the bites dried up. He then had to remain patient until the closing stages of the match to land his next fish. Second place went to Stefan Pal from peg 59 with 60lb 2oz. The remaining semi-final spot went to Mark Harrison with 53 exactly from peg 124.
