A busy week of Golden Reel action continued at Partridge Lakes on Saturday, 8th June, where steady weights and tight margins defined the latest qualifier. This time it was Jamie Hughes who came out on top, producing another composed performance to secure his place in September’s Grand Final at Larford Lakes.
Drawn on peg 103 on Covey 5, the Matrix-backed star put together a tidy 135lb 12oz to lead the field and go one better than his last visit to the venue. Back on 24th May, Jamie had to settle for second behind Colin Scott, but this time, he made no mistake. Unfortunately, there was no discussion regarding the tactics Jamie used in his Facebook interview, but it’s probably safe to assume it was a combination of hard pellets and meat.
Close behind in second was Steve Openshaw, who pushed Jamie all the way with 132lb 1oz from peg 126, also on Covey 5. Third place went to Rob Parker, who landed 111lb 11oz from peg 109, rounding out the top three, who were all drawn on the same lake. Both Steve and Rob will have another chance to qualify in the Golden Reel semi-final.

Congratulations to Jamie Hughes, who has now qualified for the Golden Reel Grand Final in addition to securing his 14th consecutive FishOMania final appearance last month. He’ll be aiming to go one better in this year’s final after finishing as last year’s runner-up.
