After Saturday’s qualifier at Rookery Waters, the Golden Reel series moved west to Larford Lakes in Stourport for the seventh qualifier. The match was held on the Speci and Match Lakes. With a big weight required due to Larford’s resident great big wobbly carp. Neil Colcombe did the job with a huge weight of over 300lb.
Neil won the match from Peg 1 on the Speci Lake, making the most of the end peg advantage to cruise to victory with 312lb 11oz — over 50lb clear of his nearest rival. In his Facebook interview, Neil revealed that he had a “nice simple day”. He began the match fishing for carp on the pellet waggler. That resulted in fish up to approx. 15lb. A change to fishing down the end brought another 150lb.
Last year’s Maver Match This winner, Zac Brown, came second in the match with 258lb 9oz from peg 3 on Match Lake. A distant, but impressive result. Josh Palmer finished third with an equally impressive haul of 249lb 10oz from peg 16 on Match Lake. Zac and Josh have both secured a place in this year’s semi-final.
Congratulations to Neil Colcombe, who becomes the seventh angler to qualify for the Golden Reel Grand Final. The final will take place at Larford Lakes on 20th September.
