Saturday, 5th July at Lake View Fishery, James Howarth became the 16th angler to book his place in the 2025 Maver Match This Grand Final after topping the latest qualifier with a solid display on Marina Lake.
Drawn on peg 20, Howarth recorded a winning weight of 114lb 9oz to finish ahead of the pack and secure his spot in one of match fishing’s biggest finals. Lake View’s Marina Lake is well known for its even pegging and mixed species, so consistency was key. While 114lb may not have been one of the biggest winning weights of the season, it was more than enough to take the win on a day when conditions seemingly kept the weights modest.
This result sees James join a growing list of high-calibre finalists already confirmed for September’s showdown at Hayfield Lakes, including reigning champion Jamie Hughes, big names like Andy Power, and recent winners Mitch Ross and Jack Williams.
