The 11th Golden Reel qualifier of 2025 was held at the stunning Patridge Lakes in Warrington on 24th May. With a sell-out field of 62 anglers competing for a chance to qualify for the Grand Final, it was Colin Scott who came out on top.
Colin won the match from page 110 on Covey 5, with a short pole masterclass to finish with 169lb 8oz. On his Facebook page, Colin gave an insight into his winning tactics. Following the draw, he thought his peg only had an outside chance. With flat calm conditions ruling out shallow work, he opted to fish meat on three short lines. The decision proved correct as he caught 63 fish, all but one of them big F1s. That was enough to take the top spot and secure his place in this year’s Golden Reel Final.
It’s been a mega day to finish off a few days fishing. I didn’t think shallow would be great, so stuck to short lines with meat. Just the one carp in the net – the rest were absolute units!
Partridge Lakes once again delivered brilliant sport, with Jamie Hughes pushing from peg 73 on Covey 3. The Matrix star put 152lb 15oz on the scales to claim second place. Third place went to Ian Welsh, with 138lb 14oz from peg 173 on Covey 6. Lee Thornton came closely behind in third with 129lb 7oz from peg 115 on the same lake. As a result of Hughes’ prior qualification, both Ian and Lee now progress to the semi-finals.
