The fourth Golden Reel qualifier of 2025 was held yesterday at Hallcroft Fishery in Retford, Nottinghamshire. The match saw 50 anglers compete for a spot in September’s Grand Final at Larford Lakes. Ryan Laycock came out on top, winning with a massive bag of over 200lb.

Ryan won the match from peg 5 on Moat Island with 224lb 6oz. According to his interview on the Golden Reel Angling Facebook page, he had a relatively slow start to the match, but managed to snare some of the large resident carp in the last two hours down the edge. Fishing with dead maggots, he had three fish with a combined weight of over 60lb, and one even blew up one of his pole sections.

Second place went to Sam Kelk with 224lb 6oz from peg 6 on Moat Island. Tony Coates came third with 190lb 8oz from peg 9 on Moat Outer. Both Same and Tony have secured a place in this year’s Golden Reel semi-final.

Congratulations to Ryan Laycock, the fourth angler to qualify for the Golden Reel big-money final at Larford Lakes on 20th September. The list of anglers who have qualified for this year’s Golden Real Grand Final is below:
