Perry Stone is the latest angler to secure his place in the 2025 Golden Reel Grand Final after edging a closely fought qualifier at The Glebe Fishery on Wednesday, 16th July. In a tight match won by just over 4lb, Perry’s tactical approach saw him clinch victory from Pool 1.
Drawn on peg 26 Pool 1, Perry began the match by fishing a feeder to the far bank, landing approximately 30lb of fish in the opening 90 minutes. As the session developed, he adapted well to the conditions, switching to short pole and edge tactics. The final final 45 minutes proved crucial, as he found a strong run of fish to add around 90lb in the closing stages. His final weight of 186lb 11oz was enough to secure the win and a coveted spot in this year’s Grand Final, marking his third Golden Reel Final qualification to date.
Mitch Ross pushed Perry all the way with 182lb 4oz from peg 28, also on Pool 1, and earned himself a semi-final place as runner-up. Tony Coates finished third with 178lb 6oz from peg 2, however, he has already qualified for the semi-finals in an earlier round. That meant the second final semi-final place passed to fourth-placed Ryan Bennett, who weighed in with 177lb 7oz from peg 22 on Pool 1.
With less than 10lb separating the top four, this was one of the most tightly contested Golden Reel qualifiers of the 2025 season so far.
