Sunday, 11th May saw another chance for anglers to qualify for this year’s Golden Reel Final. The latest qualifier took place at The Glebe in Peckleton, Leicestershire, on a sizzling hot day. Danny Squire claimed victory and a place in the Grand Final, despite not catching anything for the first 90 minutes.
Drawn on peg 76 on Pool 5, Danny put on a commanding display to finish with a massive 211lb 6oz. That was enough to win the match by over 20lb and secure his first appearance in the Grand Final. In a post-match interview on Facebook, Danny revealed he endured a tough opening hour and a half. Thankfully, the fish eventually moved into his peg, and he managed to catch by mugging carp off the surface before switching to the edge later on.
Second place went to Martin Trice from peg 107 on Pool 7 with 190lb 14oz, while Artur Hilmi claimed third with 187lb 2oz from peg 86 on Pool 6. Both anglers have secured places in the Golden Reel semi-final..
