The 16th Maver Match This qualifier was fished at Messingham Sands Fishery in Scunthorpe earlier today. North Lincolshire-based angler Matt York finished in the top spot, booking his place in this year’s Grand Final at Hayfield Lakes in August.
York drew peg 12 on Swan Lake and was hoping for a section win from that area. His luck was in during the match, however, as he had several free pegs around him. He started fishing short early in the match before switching to fishing shallow on the long pole. That switch did the business as he caught approx. 140lb in a frantic two-and-a-half hour spell by slapping a pellet between 12″ and 3ft deep. He ended the match with a fantastic 246lb 5oz.
