The Angling Trust has announced that applications are now open for talented young anglers to join the Sensas England U25 squad for the 2025 World Championships. Manager Mark Downes MBE, recently honoured for his contributions to angling, is seeking skilled competitors to represent England in Spain.
The assessment day will be held in mid-April at an unspecified venue. The assessment day will evaluate anglers’ abilities on two fishing lines – one at 8m and a long pole at 13m. Downes emphasised the importance of precise groundbaiting and feeding techniques, stating:
There’s no doubt that this will be a fish catching race with lots of carassio and carp in a deep water venue. I’m looking for the best five anglers who not only have the skills but are confident, eager to learn, and have the desire to win as a team.
Eligible anglers must be under 25 years old as of 31st December 2024. The World Championships will take place on the Guadiana River in Merida, Spain, from the 4th to the 9th of August 2025. The U25 team will compete alongside the Guru England U15 and Beechfield England U20 teams at the event.
Applicants are required to bring three pints of natural baits. Sensas and the coaching team will provide groundbait, bloodworm, and joker. The deadline for applications is Friday, 7th March 2025. Interested anglers can apply through the Angling Trust website.
Good luck to everyone who applies.
