The Angling Trust seeks talented young anglers to join the England U20 squad for the upcoming World Championships. The reigning double World Champions are holding an assessment day at Lindholme Lakes on Sunday, 9th March 2025, to select new team members.

The assessment is open to anglers under 20 as of 31st December 2024. Manager Jason Kirk is looking for experienced competitors with the right attitude to work in a close-knit team.

The 2025 U20 World Championships will occur from August 4th to 9th in Merida, Spain. The event will take place on the carp-filled Guadiana River. The assessment will focus on long pole fishing techniques, as the Spanish venue is expected to feature deep-water carp and carassio fishing. England U20 manager, Jason Kirk went into more detail about the assessment day and this year’s World Champs.

We know the venue in Spain will be a lot of carp and carassio fishing in deep water so we’re looking for anglers who have loads of experience of catching lots of fish efficiently on the long pole.

We’ll be asking the anglers to fish the pole at 13m and will be looking at their technique, feeding accuracy, their ability to read a peg, and how efficient they are at playing and netting fish.

Interested anglers can apply through the Angling Trust website. The deadline for applications is Friday, 21st February 2025. Successful applicants will be invited to the assessment day on Benny’s Lake at Lindholme, where they will demonstrate their skills to Jason and his coaching team.
