The fifth Golden Reel qualifier of this year’s competition was held at Lindholme Lakes in Doncaster on Saturday, 19th April. The match saw another 50 anglers compete to secure a spot in this year’s Grand Final at Larford Lakes. The winner on this occasion was Adam Richards, who won the match by 13lb.
Adam, who had recently signed with Blakes Baits, won the match from peg 70 on Bonsai. In his interview on the Golden Reel Facebook page, Adam was fortunate enough to draw peg with the wind off his back. Following a slow start fishing short, he switched to fishing shallow on a conventional shallow rig. Once that slowed down, he changed to an overshotted rig, which was enough to keep the fishing coming steadily. He ended the match with 96 fish for 144lb 4oz.
Andy North came second with 131lb 4oz from peg 14 on Bonsai. Third place went to Rob Swan, who tipped the scales at 130lb 2oz from peg 10 on Benny’s. Andy and Rob have both secured a spot in this year’s semi-final.
