Bauer Media Cancels Improve Your Coarse Fishing Magazine

After an impressive run of over three decades, Bauer Media has announced that Improve Your Coarse Fishing will cease publication in May 2024. While it’s bad news for fans of the monthly UK magazine, the brand will live on in a different form.

First published in 1991, Improve Your Coarse Fishing has provided a wealth of insightful match and coarse fishing tactics to anglers of all abilities for over 33 years. With its easy-to-read layout, stunning photography, and interesting features, IYCF once boasted a monthly readership of over 50,000 in its prime. Despite its popularity, the magazine didn’t have any presence online, which has no doubt contributed to its downfall.

The cancellation of the monthly publication, however, doesn’t mean that Improve Your Coarse Fishing is going away completely. Baure Media also confirmed that “this closure doesn’t mark an end but rather a transformation” as the IYCF brand will live on inside the pages of the weekly Angling Times.

Steve Prentice, the Bauer Media Groups UK Co-CEO said:

In a challenging period for many magazines, we’re pleased to bring the Improve Your Coarse Fishing content under the Angling Times umbrella. Our mission has always been to give anglers more confidence and enable them to catch more fish; this move allows us to do that more effectively than before.

James Furness, the Editor of Angling Times had this to add:

Improve Your Coarse Fishing has been a trusted friend to thousands of anglers for three decades, thanks to its inclusive tone and easy-to-understand tips and tactics to help people catch more fish. My team and I will be incorporating that tone and ethos into Angling Times.

Whilst it’s good news that Improve Your Coarse Fishing will continue in some form, this isn’t the first time that Bauer Media has been forced to cease publication of fishing magazine brands. In 2020, Trout Fisherman was removed from the shelves after a run of 40 years. Bauer also sold sister magazine Trout and Salmon to Fieldsports Press last April, and Sea Angler was sold to Kelsey Media in 2020.
