Wednesday 31st July saw the Angling Trust’s UK Veterans and Masters National Championships take place at Tunnel Barn Farm in Warwickshire. Both matches were fished at the same time, with the Masters (ages 55 to 65) held on House and High Pool, whilst the Veterans (ages 65+) fished on Top Pool, Jenny’s Club, Canal, New and Extension.

On a blazing hot day when the temperature hit 30 degrees, both matches were extremely close, with less than 2kg separating first and second. According to the Angling Trust, 110 anglers competed on the day, but it was Tony Woods took home the gold medal for the Veterans and Dave Brown Snr won it for the Masters.

Angling Trust Veterans National Championship

Tony Woods won the match from page 13 on Jenny’s Pool with a weight of 55.175kg. He won catching mainly F1s on meat short and casters shallow in the margins – which was lucky as he broke his 13m pole section during the match.

Second place went to Kelvin Emlyn who finished just one fish behind with 54.650kg from peg 13 on Canal Pool. David Turner took the bronze medal with 51.425kg from peg 1 on Canal Pool.
