Bob Mortimer and Paul Whitehouse are set to delight fans again this Christmas with a Gone Christmas Fishing special. The news was exclusively revealed by British Comedy Guide last week along with details of what we can expect when the episode airs next month. The exact date for Gone Christmas Fishing 2024 has yet to be announced.

This festive episode was shot on the picturesque Lot River in Cahors, France. It promises to bring the duo’s unique blend of humour and heartwarming camaraderie to BBC Two during the holiday season. The episode also features a “special guest,” whose identity remains a closely guarded secret.

This marks the fourth Christmas instalment of Gone Fishing and the second to be filmed outside the UK. The previous occasion was their 2022 special in Norway.

Reflecting on the recently aired seventh series, Mortimer expressed his belief that this has been their best season yet. He attributed its success to the deep connection and shared experiences between him and Whitehouse. Their fishing adventures began as a therapeutic pastime following their respective heart surgeries, evolving into a cherished television series that resonates with viewers.

Despite health challenges, including Mortimer’s recent battle with shingles during filming. the show continues to thrive. Mortimer credits Whitehouse for his unwavering support during these difficult moments.

I wasn’t very well and it made it a bit of a struggle but, as always, Paul looked after me and pulled me through. For half the season I couldn’t walk so it was very challenging at times.

When we were in Trent, I was being taken from a wheelchair to the top of the bank. You never see that but you never see me on my feet either.

I just tried to get some muscle back, or get some to grow a bit stronger. I’m 80% back and, by the end of the series, I was reasonably sprightly. The first two episodes are the greatest of Gone Fishing that have ever been made. I think they’re magnificent.

Mortimer and Whitehouse: Gone Fishing Series Eight Arrives Next Year

The upcoming eighth series, set to air next year, will see the pair exploring more of the UK’s scenic countryside, with each location holding personal significance for them. This series promises to delve deeper into their journeys while maintaining the show’s signature blend of humour and introspection.

As fans eagerly await this festive treat, BBC Commissioning Editor Patrick McMahon recently expressed excitement about welcoming back Mortimer and Whitehouse for another round of fishing adventures. The show’s executive producer, Lisa Clark, highlighted the joy of showcasing Britain’s natural beauty alongside the duo’s comedic antics.

With its mix of friendship, philosophy, and fishing escapades, Gone Christmas Fishing is set to be a highlight of the holiday television lineup.
