The Angling Trust’s Women’s National Championship occurred yesterday at an unseasonably cold and windy Martson Fields Fishery. The match saw 47 anglers compete on Elm, Willow, Oak and Laurels to crown the 2024 Women’s Champion. There was also the added incentive of a place in this year’s FishOMania final up for grabs.
In what was described as “tough” fishing conditions, Leanne Knott was crowned champion from peg 22 on Elm to secure the gold medal. The Newark-based angler caught 14 carp fishing near the island using a method feeder with wafters on the hook. She finished the match with a weight of 31k 975g.

Second place went to Brooke Hodgkiss from peg 4 on Willow. She finished with 11 carp for a weight of 26k 275g. All but one of her fish came from the method feeder, with the other coming on the long pole on 6mm pellets. Sarah Taylor secured the bronze medal from peg 4 on Oak Lake with 25k 575g. The majority of her catch came late on the short pole.
Congratulations to all three medalists.
Leanne and Sarah also secured the gold medal in the teams of four match with fellow teammates Kayleigh Dowd and Charlotte Gore. Their combined weight of 84k 450g secured the victory by just over 4k.
